Pump Spotting

with 6 comments

I spotted it clipped to her jean pocket, a silvery clear Paradigm Veo.
I hurried back to the produce department to tell my sister.

Summer Child: – Well, did you talk to her?

Me: – No, I am shy

Summer Child: – Go introduce yourself and your pump to her.

Me: – What do I say?

We exchanged our diagnoses stories while selecting vegetables, then moved on to the bulk bins. Talking diabetes while shopping seemed so normal and we had a lot in common.

Animas One Touch Ping

We were both diagnosed the same year.
We both started pumping the same year.
We both said we would never wear insulin pumps. “I do not want something attached to me 24/7”
Long acting insulin was just not working and we both did not want to go back to the horror show of insulin NPH.

We introduced our pumps – my Animas Ping met her Medtronic veo and parted ways in the dairy section.

Today while sitting at a red light I spotted the tubing. My eye followed it to a blue Medtronic pump.

“I see insulin pumps, they are everywhere”
