A Girl

London Sep 2007 Kingston-Upon-Thames 029

Adjwoa (Adjoa), Akan meaning a female born on Monday. Born in Ghana, West Africa and fair of face, I have seen comfort and uneasiness, was happiest while living in a house with no running water or electricity nor neighbours within a half-mile radius. I believe there is nothing civil about “civil war” and children should never be counted among collateral damages.

REFLECTIONS

I fell in love with Sierra Leone while living in Freetown and traveling to Banana Island and the Uplands as a child. Switzerland will always have a special place in my heart as many of my “firsts” happened in this land with a unique French, German and Italian cultural influences and heritage. My travels within Western Europe thought me a lot more about Africa and Africans than I leant living in Africa.

I live with Type 1 diabetes on an insulin pump I call “Pumcy” trying to live a healthy life in hopes of starving of all the horrible complicates diabetes gifts.

My little sister has type 1 diabetes and I really try to help her. I invented a diabetic dress for her and it has a pochet with a flap underneath and you just weave your pump through it and viola! now you can wear dresses with your pump! I really love my sister and I know that diabetes is NOT fun.
