Insulin Pump – I will give it up when you pry it from my cold, dead hands

Lots of people have emailed, text or called me concerned about the news.

Black hat hacker can remotely attack insulin pumps and kill people.

Well I am not concerned and I will continue using my insulin pump, thank you. There are loads of things that people living with diabetes have to worry about, my insulin pump being hacked is not high on that worry list.

Jay Radcliffe, a security specialist hacked his own insulin pump out of curiosity. I would have done that same thing if I did not pay 100% out of pocket for my pump.

Insulin pumpers have been discussing this on Twitter using the hashtag #pumphack

Hopefully the sensationalism of this by the media will not cost or delay the innovation we need to manage diabetes, while we wait for a cure.

There are great blog posts by users of insulin pump and stakeholders some of them are -

Scott Hanselman, Kerri Morrone Sparling, Bennet Dunlap, Kelly Booth, Mike Hoskins and TuDiabetes to mention a few.

  1. I have a feeling all the pumpers are thinking the exact same thing as you!

  3. Exactly. We have actual real things to be concerned about, as insulin pumpers and diabetics in general. This isn’t one of them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
