A Girl's Reflections

My new iBGStar blood glucose meter is tiny enough that it felt lost in my regular diabetes supplies carrying case. Sadly, I do not like using the cases that comes with blood glucose meters, they all look a little too medical.

I chose this little midnight blue M0851 case. It is the perfect size plus, I accessorized it with some hardware to personalize it while adding an element of fun.

Sanofi Canada launched STARsystem along with the iBGStar blood glucose meter on March 29th. STARsystem is a web-based platform designed to provide individualized diabetes education, health coaching and an action plan to help manage life with diabetes.

Hugh O’Neill, President and CEO of Sanofi Canada says –

STARsystem was designed to address the unmet needs of Canadians living with diabetes and help empower them by providing tailored support and advice on five key areas:
• Monitoring
• Managing
• Eating

• Feeling

Through STARsystem, each user gets a personalized assessment that directs them to tailored resources and provides a custom achievable curriculum that guides them towards reaching their wellness goals,

The price of admission into the STAR treatment club is your blood glucose meter’s serial number by registering your iBGStar or its older sibling the BGStar. You are then asked to answer ten questions, which is used to assess your diabetes knowledge, enabling STARsystem to personalize your content.

My page loaded up with articles and videos on the five key areas mentioned above from pharmacists, nurses, nutritionists, kinesiologists and psychologists. My page is loaded with a lot of great information but does absorbing all this information lead to great diabetes management? No!

I suspect Sanofi Canada already knows this and that is why they have included health coaching.

I had espresso tea and digestive biscuits for dinner, some fresh strawberries and whipped coconut milk for dessert.

It was yummy…

I brew my rooibos tea in an espresso stove-top maker making it espresso tea. It tastes smoother and richer, and is brewed just as you will brew coffee.

Directions

1. Fill the bottom chamber with cold water up to the steam release valve
2. Insert the funnel filter and fill with loose rooibos tea-leaves
3. Screw the top on
4. Put on stove-top and heat (it is ready when you hear it gurgling)
5. Remove from heat and allow it to sit for 30 seconds before serving.

I served my espresso tea with a splash of coconut milk.
