Wordy Wordless Wednesday – One World, One Hope

Home is where I am

One World, One Hope

“It is called one world one hope,” he said pointing to the painting I was admiring.

We had just moved to Vancouver and we were out and about, shopping for furnishings. We stopped at a little art and framing shop hoping to pick up some hanging hooks when I first saw it.

One World, One Hope, I repeated to myself.

I like it no I love it. The painting looks like stained glass, and I can see my face in it as well as the faces of so many others. Its name speaks to me we have one hope a hope for a cure.

This painting speaks to me the, me living with type 1 diabetes and I see in it the collective us all living with diabetes and with one hope.

Hope for a cure.

It was one of a numbered and signed edition, the last one the store had. We bought it not knowing much about the painting or the artist.

Home is where I am

We later found out that the One World, One Hope image was used as Canada’s first AIDS awareness poster, for the XI international AIDS Conference in Vancouver in 1996.
